Breast Implant Revision

It’s normal to change your mind about your breast implants as you go through life. Breast implant revision can revise, exchange, or remove your existing implants based on your needs.

What is Breast Implant Revision?

Breast implant revision is a procedure that aims to revise the results of a previously undergone breast augmentation procedure. If you’re thinking about changing your breast implants, you’ve been through primary breast augmentation surgery already and know what the procedure is like. The revision procedure has many similarities, but also differences. Breast augmentation revision is often more complicated than primary breast augmentation because there are elements from the previous surgery such as the implants and scar tissue.

Breast augmentation revision can be performed to correct a problem such as capsular contracture or post augmentation asymmetry. Another common reason for revision is to decrease or increase the size of your original breast implants.

What patients are saying

“I’m extremely pleased with the results from my surgery with Dr. Watterson. I had implants removed, a reduction and lift. I had three other consults before meeting with Dr. Watterson and all of those doctors said I needed to do this in two surgeries. Dr. Watterson confidently assured me that he could do this in one surgery. Dr Watterson is capable and kind. I’m very happy with the results.”

“I highly recommend Premier Plastic Surgery for all of your cosmetic and reconstructive needs.
Everyone I’ve worked with has been so nice, informative, personable, and professional. From the front office ladies, all of the nurses, and Dr Howland, I’ve felt like a cared for individual every single time I’ve gone in.”

“My experiences with Premier Plastic Surgery has always been excellent! Everyone from the reception, the nurses and Dr. Richard Fryer has been extremely commendable! I highly recommend Premier Plastic Surgery!”

Who’s a Good Candidate for Breast Implant Revision?

Good candidates for breast implant revision are patients who have undergone breast augmentation from the same or a different plastic surgeon. If you experienced complications, are dissatisfied with your results, or simply want to remove your implants, breast implant revision is an effective option. You should be in overall good health and completely recovered from your initial breast augmentation. During your consultation with your plastic surgeon, you’ll determine the right approach for your needs and select new implants if needed.

What Happens During Breast Implant Revision?

Breast implant revision is performed under general anesthesia. It’s very similar to your initial breast augmentation. To begin, your plastic surgeon will perform an incision and remove the existing implants. Your plastic surgeon may also remove the capsule of scar tissue around the implants if you’ve experienced capsular contracture. If needed, new implants will be placed. Finally, your incisions will be closed, and you’ll be fitted with a surgical bra. Once complete, you can return home.

Breast Implant Revision Results and Recovery

Breast implant revision recovery is very similar to breast augmentation. You should plan to take 1-2 weeks away from regular activities and limit your physical activity level. Make sure to wear your surgical bra as much as possible during this time to support your new implants and relieve tension from your incisions. If you have children or pets, arrange for help since you’ll be unable to lift objects above your head during this time. You’ll be given detailed aftercare instructions to follow which include taking prescription medications, taking care of your incisions, and following up with your plastic surgeon. It can take a few months for swelling to subside and your new implants to settle into their final position, and your plastic surgeon will indicate when it’s safe to return to your regular schedule.
