Neck Lift
The neck is often one of the first places to show signs of aging. If you’re bothered by jowls or sagging skin and fat under your chin, the neck lift is the most effective way to contour the jaw and achieve a more youthful look.
What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure that can tighten and contour the neck. As you age, it’s normal to have jowls, sagging skin, and stubborn fat around the chin and neck area. The neck lift can restore a more defined look and get rid of a double chin. It’s often performed in tandem with other procedures like the facelift or liposuction. It can also be an effective option for weight loss patients left with excess skin.
Who’s a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Good candidates for a neck lift are patients who are bothered by loose, sagging skin under the chin and around the jawline. In some cases, the neck lift can be used to correct a double chin caused by genetics (often paired with liposuction). It’s important to be in overall good health and have good anti-aging skincare habits in place to get the most out of your results. During your consultation with your plastic surgeon, you’ll discuss the right surgical approach for your goals.
What Happens During a Neck Lift?
A neck lift can sometimes be performed using local anesthetic and sedation, but you may need general anesthetic if you combine your procedure with a facelift or other surgery. To begin, your plastic surgeon will perform an incision around the ears and under the chin to gain access to the underlying tissues. The muscles will be tightened with sutures and fat will be removed. Finally, sagging skin will be trimmed away before the incisions are closed. Once complete, you can return home.
Neck Lift Results and Recovery
The neck lift requires 1-2 weeks away from your normal activities. You’ll be given detailed instructions on limiting your activity level, caring for your incisions, and taking your prescribed medications. It’s important to keep your head elevated while resting and sleeping since laying down can exacerbate blood flow and swelling. You can expect swelling and bruise for the first few weeks before beginning to subside. It can take up to a few months for your final results to settle in, but you’ll see a noticeable improvement in the shape and contour of your neckline.
